Go Eat Worms! by R.L. Stine

Go Eat Worms! The title echoes the words of Regina Barstow who is sick and tired of all her brother Todd's practical jokes with worms. Todd has collected worms for years and plans to win the computer prize at the school Science Expo with his worm house display. All is going well, until along comes the new kid, Patrick, who tells him outrightly that he has pinched his idea about worms for the expo and that he  has something exceptional planned. Todd is furious, and along with his friend, Danny, plots to find out about Patrick's project. One day whilst annoying Regina with worms yet again down in the basement of his house, Todd decides to cut one in half as shock value, but as Regina points out, the worms in his tank are watching! Now it seems they want their revenge. Todd's life becomes a nightmare and it seems that worms are plaguing him at every turn. This is a fast moving book following the usual cliff hanging chapter style of R.L. Stine. I read it in one sitting.

Welcome to the Dead House by R.L.Stine

Now I thought this book would be pretty tame but it is actually quite scary. Josh, his sister Amanda and their parents inherit a big, old house in a town called Darkfalls  from an unknown Uncle Charles. They make the decision to move from their cosy, but humble little suburban home for a more affordable and relaxed lifestyle. Amanda keeps seeing faces and people in the house and in her bedroom, Josh has never liked the house from the start, and their dog Petey begins acting in a very peculiar manner and is always running towards the cemetery for some strange reason. Throw in one Mr Dawes from the local Real Estate Agency, and a gang of children who one by one reveal they also lived in that house at one stage, and you have the recipe for a pretty engrossing story. I read it in one sitting and found the plot to be most satisfying. There is one loss I wasn't expecting and some children might find this a bit sad. Anyway, it's the number one book in the Goosebumps series and at least worth a look at.

The Haunted Mask II by R.L.Stine

Steve Boswell is not happy about having to coach the grade one soccer team as punishment for releasing a squirrel in the girls' locker room. He says they are nothing but animals! His best friend, Chuck, hasn't exactly been helpful either. Anyway, Halloween is fast approaching and Steve wants to have the scariest outfit in town. He wants a mask like the one Carly Beth had last year which had everyone running for their lives. So he decides to purchase one from the store where she bought hers. The only trouble is that the store is no longer open for business so he steals one from the basement; a creepy old man mask with stringy hair and spiders bursting from the ears. However, this evil mask start to suffocate him and take over his body. Check out the video clip below to find out a bit about the horrors that await Steve:

Tick Tock, You're Dead by R.L.Stine

The beauty of R.L Stine 'choose your own adventure' books is that he ensures that the most improbable and interesting scenarios are available for the reader to choose from. Outstanding in this particular genre. It's all about Denny who runs off by himself in the huge Museum of Natural History. So, you go look for him...because you are guiding the story, but, instead you find the laboratory of the crazy Dr. Peebles. There is a time machine and suddenly Denny runs into it and vanishes. All the instructions are at the bottom of each page, you make the choices. If you don't find Denny in two hors he will cease to exist. This is the second book in the Give Yourself Goosebumps Gamebook series.

Welcome to Camp Nightmare by R.L.Stine

All of those scary stories about camp are all coming true. The food is terrible and the counsellors are very strange. The camp director, Uncle Al, is turning out to be demented. But that’s alright, Billy believes he can handle all of that but then suddenly his friends start to disappear. What is going on? His parents don’t answer his letters, and there is something lurking after dark. Camp Nightmoon might as well be called Camp Nightmare! This is one for Jye or maybe, Lucinda.
