Sam leaves home without thinking it through. He is tired of not been noticed, and jealous of all the attention his sister Kate is getting since her life-changing accident. However, life on the streets in the city is not all it seemed cracked up to be and Sam feels an intense loneliness. Not only this, but he is also hassled by a gang who seem out to cause him harm. Then, it's Rissole to his rescue and little by little Rissole tests him and allows him into his life. They both share a love of a stray kitten called Pinball and both have their own issues to come to terms with. Rissole wants desperately to find his mum and Sam, now nicknamed Spider, struggles to come to terms with his feelings of guilt at having left home and the enormous obstacle that his sister faces.
This blog contains reviews and comments on children's books which I own, have read, and would like to share. I look for books at markets and opportunity shops. They are cleaned up, covered and read. Then I take them to the classroom for students to read. Students can borrow the books at any time. Many books are also from my personal library, especially the Youth Fiction. Students can preview some of them on this blog. Now, I am also on the lookout for great new releases for my grandson Archie.

Snake Live!! and Snake Too by Sols
Snake is desperate for friends, he wants arms and legs but no-one takes him seriously. These cartoon books are very 1970's and 80s but many of the jokes are still very funny. They are in the Fun Stuff section of our classroom and can be read on Popular Literature Day, which is a Friday. SOLS' real name is Allan Salisbury and he was born in Victoria, Australia. He is best known for his newspaper comic Snake Tales. His other creations include Lennie the Loser and Fingers and Foes.
