Erath-Shattering Earthquakes by Anita Ganeri

Well there has been enough of these this year, especially in New Zealand and Japan. This book is all about evil earthquakes which bury whole town and shake up some of the world's most populous cities You can learn a lot about what causes them and how people try to prepare for them and cope with them after they happen. What really is going on under the earth's crust? You might be a bit disturbed to find out, so hold on tight! If you enjoyed Ganeri's book on volcanoes, you will enjoy this one too. Both are now in our little library.

Violent Volcanoes by Anita Ganeri

This book is from the Horrible Geography series and is a lot of fun. It is a guide to volcanoes with the gritty bits left in. You can read the diaries of volcano survivors, get clued-up with the spotter's guide to eruptions, plan an explosive holiday with the volcano vacation guide, marvel at red-hot volcanic rocks the size of cars. It has excellent diagrams, funny cartoons and is a painless way to learn about natural disasters. There is lots about Mt St Helens, Pompeii and Krakatoa.
