From Midnight to Daybreak by Kirsten Hall & Martha Dory

Eight year old Amy is desperate to own a horse and she has her eye on the family's black Arabian stallion. No matter how many hints she drops, she isn't having any success as her father believes the horse to be too headstrong for such a young girl. Amy's birthday is coming up so she is putting the pressure on her parents. The big day comes, she receives an amazing cake, her hopes are high, but it seems she is not going to get a birthday present she so desperately wants.  Then, the following morning, her parents wake her early to an unexpected surprise. The illustrations by Marta Doty will not disappoint and appear on each double page of text. This is a relatively short and simple, but not "babyish" text for a middle or upper primary student needing a break from a longer novel. The title is a beautiful play on words and very apt for the book.

Deadly, Grope (Book 5) by Morris Gleitzman & Paul Jennings

I don't think too much of her green lipstick, but remember the golden rule; don't judge a book by its cover. So this is book five in the Deadly series and Amy is on a mission to rescue Sprocket, who has been kidnapped. They get to drive a Hummer, wish I had a Hummer. This time there is a weird nudist colony. And what are the weird scientific experiments which are keeping the colonists alive? The books says you could die laughing...but I don't think you will. We have all the books in this series except for book 3 in our Little Library of Rescued Books.

The New Boy by Ruth Thomas

Firstly, I am glad the students in my class don’t bicker and backstab like some of these ones do. This book introduces us to a character called Donovan. He is the new boy at school and he is secretive, brooding and undeniably good looking. Amy finds him hard to resist. But things start to go wrong. Donovan involves Amy in a car crash. Then fights and factions develop in class under his influence, and there are unexplained thefts. When Donovan asks Amy to hide him, her loyalty is pushed to the limit If you like this one, author, Ruth Thomas also penned The Class that went Wild and The Runaways, winner of The Guardian Children's Fiction Prize. I am currently reading The Runaways on my Kindle and loving it.
